BYU Art Carnival

BYU students set up art stalls in a trunk-or-treat art sale.

I watched as trunk-or-treaters wandered from trunk to trunk. They collected not only candy but unique art at each car. On October 24, 2022, the BYU Art History Business Capstone class hosted the first ever BYU Art Carnival, and invited all BYU students to come see the art on display. I knew I had to see it for myself. In the MOA parking lot, cars lined up to form an aisle of impromptu shops perfect for me to meander through. Current and graduated BYU students managed their trunks like stalls, showing off their latest pieces of art and selling print and sticker versions to students and other guests. Artists reduced the prices of these art pieces so that students were able to afford the beautiful art around them.

I found adorable ghost stickers, a tiny birthday dinosaur print, a card with a strawberry-colored girl on the front, and a stamp of a slice of cake. Many other students showed support by purchasing stickers to add to their laptop or water bottle. There were also more unconventional items available for purchase, such as scarves, notebooks, purses, earrings, and flashcards that all incorporated original artwork. It was an art-lover's paradise, and I came away with my fair share of goodies.

The College of Humanities supports a wide range of unique activities like this. Keep a lookout for even more fun events. While the carnival has packed up for the season, their Instagram account @byuartcarnival has posts about each of the artists that came, so check them out if you’re looking to find something to brighten up your room this winter.
