Collection of Poems: Wonder

Why Can’t I Write a Picture?

Why can’t I write a picture?
Why can’t I draw a play?
Why can't I sing a portrait?
Why isn’t there a way?

Well then I’ll forge my own way;
I’ll sculpt a story grand
With part of it performed;
I’ll paint it with my hand.

If something seems impossible,
Too hard a task to do,
Remember to think outside of
The box that covers you.

When Life Gives You Lemons

When life gives you lemons,
You make lemonade.
When life gives you oranges,
You make marmalade.

But what should I make up,
And what should I do,
When life gives me cherries,
Both fuchsia and blue?

What to Do?

What to do? What to do?
Should I live in a shoe,
Or make something new,
Perhaps paint myself blue?
I could draw with some pencils
Or color in stencils
Eat a stew full of lentils
Using colored utensils...
Oh how much there is to make or to do
When you have absolutely nothing to do.

Advice Stand

I have a small advice stand here
That’ll make your whole life better!
I have a small advice stand here
That says “Five cents a letter.”

What’s forty-five times square root three?
“Gee, I don’t know. Go ask your brother!”
What’s Antarctica’s capital?
“Well, beats me! Go ask your mother!”

I get a lot of customers,
But they don’t think I’m funny.
What they don’t know is that I don’t know,
And they all owe me money.

Going to Sleep

Good night. Sleep tight.
Don’t let the bedbugs bite.
Now hush, child. It’ll be alright.
Just go to sleep now. Turn off the light.

But where is sleep, mom?
Where should I go?
Do you have the directions?
Is it somewhere you know?
How can I go to sleep?
Will you stay?
Can you be the one
To show me the way?

Of course I will.
Now close your eyes,
And let your chest
Just fall and rise.
You don’t go to sleep;
It comes to you.
Focus on breathing.
Through and through,
At last the sleep
Will come to you.

Now quiet, darling.
I’ll turn out the light.
I’ll see you come morning.
For now, good night.
