Biography

Born in Texas in 1975.
Joined the Church in 1991.
Graduated high school and began studies at BYU in 1994.
Served full-time mission in Florida from 1995-1997.
Graduated from BYU in 2000.
Married Janine Louise Draper in 2001.
Began MA / PhD studies at UT Austin in 2001.
Graduated with PhD in 2007.
Accepted tenure track position at Wake Forest University in 2007.
Promoted to Associate Professor and granted tenure at Wake Forest in 2013.
Accepted position at BYU in 2014.

Research Interests

Scholarship and teaching in 20th and 21st century Mexican and Spanish American cultural production with emphasis on literature; literary and cultural theory; intellectual and national histories; countercultural movements; urban youth cultures; and intersections between literature, music, and film.

Teaching Interests

Contemporary Mexican literature, film, music, and culture.
Contemporary Spanish American literature, film, music, and culture.
Spanish American historical fiction.
