Biography
Dr. Elzinga’s research interests are phonological description and theory, the sound structure of English, and Uto-Aztecan linguistics.
Research Interests
Dr. Elzinga's research interests include the documentation, description, and analysis of the Numic (Uto-Aztecan) languages Shoshone, Goshute, Ute, and Paiute. He has worked with Native communities in Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and Colorado on language documentation projects. Dr. Elzinga is also interested in general trends in phonological theory and in the sound structure of English.Teaching Interests
Dr. Elzinga teaches courses in basic and advanced phonology, field methods in linguistics, and the linguistics, history, and sociology of constructed languages like Esperanto and Klingon.Education
