Rachel Yu Liu is assistant professor of Chinese in the Department of Asian and Near Eastern Languages. She earned her Ph.D. in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Sun Yat-sen University in China in 2010. She received her B.A. in Chinese language and literature at Sun Yat-sen University in 2005. She started working at BYU from September 2010. She taught Chinese 301 (Advanced Chinese), Chinese 311R (Advanced Chinese Conversation), Chinese 321 (Selected Readings of Modern Chinese), Chinese 325 (Structure of Chinese), Chinese 326 (Intro to Chinese Linguistics), Chinese 441 (Classical and Literary Chinese), Chinese 443 (Modern Chinese Literature), Chinese 490R (Individual Studies), Chinese 495 (Senior Seminar) at BYU. She also taught in some other programs including “Princeton in Beijing” program, IUPUI summer study abroad program, China-International MBA Program at University of Hawaii at Manoa, all level of Chinese courses for international students at Sun Yat-sen University, and Chinese writing course for Chinese undergraduate students at Jinan University. Her research interests are Chinese linguistics, Acquisition of Chinese as a Second Language, Language Assessment.
