Elder Soares Meets French Senator Who Works with College of Humanities Students

Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and Elder James W. McConkie III of the Europe Central Area Presidency met with French Senator Stéphane Demilly in Paris on November 12, 2024.

Demilly has worked closely with professors and students in the College of Humanities. Professors Corry Cropper (19th-Century French Literature, Associate Dean) and Yvon LeBras (French Language and Culture), with a class of business French and translation students, translated Demilly's book, L'alchimie des singularités (The Alchemy of Singularities), into English. Demilly has visited BYU and Salt Lake City on multiple occasions to meet with College of Humanities students and faculty.

Elder Soares said, “We had a wonderful meeting with [Sen. Demilly] today. He is very interested in our humanitarian initiatives that we have around the world. We talked about the importance of religion, in establishing good communication among people, being peacemakers and creating a society that everybody can participate in.”
