Respect and Equity

Brigham Young University
Statement on Respect (for faculty and staff)
The College of Humanities has enjoined students to act and conduct themselves professionally and to question their biases. We likewise expect employees in the College of Humanities to help create a professional and respectful environment for all students and employees, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation.
We encourage faculty, staff, and administrators to avoid interrupting or patronizing colleagues; to call on male and female students in equal measure; and to recognize the extra demands placed on female faculty to do “professional housekeeping” or emotional labor, particularly in their informal mentoring of students. We encourage everyone in our community to model respect of difference so that our students will be prepared for professional and civic life.
